This lighthearted, heavily illustrated presentation and discussion examines fantastic claims about the distant past from right here in the Midwest—including Michigan—where we are no strangers to tales of crop circles, ancient alien interventions, bigfoot and other cryptozoids, Atlantis, and assorted transoceanic explorations by foreigners who visited well before Columbus. Such ideas are fun to think about, but how well do they hold up under the scrutiny of archaeology and critical thinking, and is there even a possibility that some of them might be dangerous? Dr. Zimmerman is Professor of Anthropology and Museum Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
