Happy Collie-days! For us, the upcoming season means celebrating family (including Fido). Michigan’s Great Southwest has awesome holiday happenings coming soon, for two and four legs. As we near the Christmas season, here’s a few ways to celebrate with and for your furry friends!
For kids, a visit to Santa and the requisite picture for the card marks the beginning of the Christmas season. Thanks to Wolf’s Marine, this can be a part of your furry kids’ season, too! On Saturday, November 26th, head over to Wolf’s Marine from 1:00-3:00pm to get a 4 x 6 color picture of your pet taken with Santa! There is a $15 donation to a local animal charity. Of course, treats for pets and their friends!
Animal Aid’s Annual Christmas Holiday Open House will be held at the St. Joseph Library on December 3rd from 12:00-4:00pm. It's right down the street from the Reindog Parade! Join them to meet pets for adoption, as well as find gift items, stocking stuffers, a bake sale and silent auction.
The Reindog Parade, sponsored by FuzzyButz Pet Bakery, offers a stroll down State Street in St. Joseph for pups to usher in Santa! Dogs are encouraged to dress in festive garb- there is a judging with prizes from local merchants. It’s just $3 for your dog’s shot at stardom if you pre-register online or at the Welcome Center (or $5 for 2-5 dogs, $10 for 6+ dogs). Day-of registration is $5 per four-legged participant, and begins at 2:00pm, with judging between 2:30-3:45. At 4:00, the “Santa Bernards” and “Reindeer Rotweilers” will bark their way from South to North on State Street with Santa’s sleigh behind. It’s a sight to behold, and better to participate! Call the Welcome Center at 269.985.1111 with questions.
Be sure to stop by FuzzyButz Pet Bakery to pick up your red rein-dog nose, too! While you're inside (dogs are welcome, of course!) check out their supplies and treats, made on site. Mary and her crew make them daily by hand; you can't find a better holiday treat for your pup!
Over at North Pier Brewing, December 3rd marks the inaugural Mustachio Bashio, benefiting the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan. It’s a festive facial-hair competition with the $10 cover matched by North Pier Brewing, and then donated to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan. With such a worthy cause in mind, you can compete for the top award “Mustache King of Southwest Michigan”, or in sub categories like Best Theme, No Rules, and Nice Try. You can find full event details here; as North Pier says, "With great mustache, comes great responsibility". Come and celebrate on Saturday, December 3rd for a great cap on a animal-filled day!
Have a great holiday season, as you “dachshund” through the snow!
