Our History, Mission and Purpose

The New Territory Arts Association (NTAA) was founded in 1998 to create a vital Benton Harbor Arts District through community outreach and advocacy of the arts. We are  a 501(c)(3) grassroots organization dedicated to the revitalization of the Benton Harbor Arts District with a firm belief that “Art Builds Community.”

Donations and NTAA membership dues help us organize special and annual events that further our mission. We also provide financial assistance in the form of grants and scholarships for various art education programs and events for community youth. If you would like more information about this process, please email us here.

Our Projects

In the past, we created the The Benton Harbor Children’s Art Fair,  Arts District Banner Project, Fall Festival of the Arts, NTAA Mural Project, and the Benton Harbor City Market, just to name a few. We have also partnered with St. Joseph’s Krasl Art Center for our annual golf outing, Swinging for Sculpture, which directly funds major art installations in the community.

Currently, we focus on bringing four main events to Benton Harbor every year. We showcase our Member Businesses and local artists through our quarterly Art Hops, bring independent film to the area with our 3rd Thursday Film Series and reclaim the night with local craft beer, food and movies at Benton Bizarro.

We culminate our efforts in our flagship fundraiser: Artoberfest. A unique combination of local artists, musicians, food, and drink that shows the world what makes Benton Harbor great. And even better, we help fund experienced professionals to help prepare young artists and musicians that are given the chance to publicly perform.

With a Little Help From Our Friends

NTAA is able to make a positive impact in the community because of its dedicated, passionate volunteers. Our Board of Directors and marketing committee are responsible for organizing and planning events while our supportive group of resident volunteers help us pull it off. We are truly an example of the sum being greater than its parts and would love to have you join our team.
