If you’re arriving in town (or maybe you’re lucky enough to live in southwest Michigan) on Thursday, take a tour with the Heritage Museum & Cultural Center! The St. Joseph Historic Walking Tour kicks off at 5:30pm, offering a unique way to see the monuments, architecture, and  unforgettable views. Pick up the tour at the Whitcomb Tower (509 Ship Street).

After your walking tour, enjoy the season with some of the great outdoor seating available right in downtown St. Joseph. The Bistro on the Boulevard, The Buck Burgers & Brew, Ryebelle’s, Silver Beach Pizza, and Shu’s all offer seating with a peek at the lake. Just across Main Street, Clementine’s Too offer riverfront seating and Silver Harbor Brewing has a sweet deck, too.

After dinner, stroll over to the Krasl Art Center; they are open until 9:00pm! You can check out their “Beach Season” exhibit, featuring Coney Island photography by Harvey Stein and hyperrealistic sculptures by Carole Feureman.

We want to be the first to “pick” at Blue Moon Vintage Market! This once-per-month vintage market in Three Oaks is restaged for each opening, offering an awesome selection of vintage, primitives, salvage and more from mother-daughter duo Jen and Vicki Kerr. Blue Moon Vintage Market happens all weekend for your treasure hunting pleasure.

While we’re in Three Oaks, lunch at Journeyman Distillery’s Staymaker is a must. We’re fans of the Detroit style pizza for sharing, or the burgers with gin pickles and whiskey bbq sauce.

Heading back up the lake, make sure you’re downtown by 5:00pm to check out beer tastings with the local North Pier Brewing at PurelyMichigan! The downtown store is hosting the brewery for free sampling until 7:00pm.

It’s Friday Night Dockside at Plank’s Tavern, starting at 5:30pm! Enjoy some live music and water views, as well as great beer specials.

To continue the live music fun, check out the Friday Night Concert in the Howard Bandshell! We’ve got the Summer Reunion band playing at 7:30pm. This free concert is sponsored by the Boulevard Inn and Bistro, at the Howard Bandshell.

We’re excited to welcome over 50 crafters to the Lake Bluff Artisan Faire! Visit the show to find amazing work by local and traveling vendors. There’s woodworking, handmade soaps, repurposed crafts, and more. The event happens from 10:00am-5:00pm, right in Lake Bluff Park!

It’s also the weekly Farmer’s Market on the bluff (busy weekend for the park!). We’re headed into an amazing time of harvest in Southwest Michigan; explore the bounty of the season at the market! You’ll also find local wineries, dog treats, bakers, and fresh flowers, too.

On Ship Street, Wanderlust Outfitters celebrates their 1 year anniversary this weekend! There’s great sales all weekend long, and we’re really excited about Saturday. Sarret Nature Center is bringing critters to the store, starting at 11:00am! There’s also face painting and a balloon artist until 2:00. Hang around a little later, too, because the Livery Microbrewery will be sampling beer in the store from 6:00-9:00pm.

In keeping with the patriotic holiday, the Curious Kid’s Museum is offering a “Red, White and Blue…Stars” Super Saturday! With admission or membership, families can participate in the make-and-take activity from 12:00-4:00pm.

For dinner, there’s live music and an amazing lake view at LakeHouse Restaurant. The deck that overlooks to the bluff is huge; it’s a great spot to gaze at the lake, with a full menu to make the family happy.

Saturday is also the party at SJRYC Yacht Club for the Tri-State Regatta! The yacht club is open to the public for the day, offering an excellent view of the incoming boats and tasty meals. If you’re ready to dance, Libido Funk Circus is playing at 8:00! There’s a $5 cover charge for non members after 7:30pm.

We’re back to the bluff on Sunday for Antiques on the Bluff! The monthly treasure hunt begins at 10:00am in Lake Bluff Park, with 50+ vendors bringing their finds in.

Just around the corner, we’re excited about the free Horse Drawn Trolley Rides (sponsored by a generous grant from the Upton Foundation). Hop aboard on State and Elm street from 11:00-2:00pm for a ride around the block with Noah, the rescue horse.

After a morning in St. Joseph, we’re headed to Baroda for Round Barn Winery’s Fruits of Our Labor Party! It’s a great way to kick back and relax on both Saturday and Sunday. There’s Round Barn’s full selection of great beverages, awesome music (including Slim Gypsy Baggage at 4:00pm on Sunday!), and family fun. Plus, with an outdoor seat in the vineyards, it’s a great way to soak up the last of summer.

A little later, it’s the Beer & Blues Party at Watermark Brewing. Let them do the work- the Undertakers have the blues part down, and Watermark’s brews will be flowing. The Sunday party goes from 6:00-9:00pm.

Take a break today, and celebrate summer! We love this season for Lake Michigan swimming (we wrote about the glory of fall beaches here). While you’re exploring, it might be a great time to look at the rentals from Third Coast Paddling, or Lake Life Sports

Have a safe and happy Labor Day, and continue to enjoy summer in the Southwest.
