Saron Lutheran Church
510 Main St., St. Joseph, 49085 (directions)
A small group of Scandinavians met for worship in the St. Joseph fire station on August 3, 1875. After the service Rev. J. P. Nuquist called for the establishment of a Lutheran church for people of Swedish descent and 29 persons signed a charter to become part of the Augustana Synod. The name "Saron" was chosen as the title of the congregation. It was the Swedish spelling of "Sharon" in the Bible and refers to God's love as a blossom like a rose in the desert.
Saron, a congregation of the ELCA, celebrated its 135th anniversary in August of 2010!
Recent Renovation and Building Addition
In November of 2001, Saron dedicated a new building addition and renovated the entire building. The work included a new Narthex, elevator, air conditioning and handicap access. See Building Dedication for more information.

Our congregation encourages parents to bring small children to worship and to send them to the altar when we have a children's sermon. We accept the occasional interruption children may cause. However, there are times when your children may interfere with your ability to worship. Please feel free to take them to the nursery at any time during the service. There is a public address speaker there so you will not miss the service.
Stained Glass Windows
Beautiful stained glass windows surround the nave of the church. The stained glass window on this page is in the west wall of Saron's Narthex. The window shown on the Worship Schedule page is in the front of the church. Both windows are illuminated each evening.
