Harvey is an African American saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator. As a musician and bandleader, he has performed extensively in Western Pennsylvania, Northeast Ohio and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He also has performed with the First Class Big Band, the Ohio Players, The Akron Symphony Big Band, the Youngstown Jazz Collective, The Big Nasty, The Black Wolf and the Thief, and many other musical projects.
The octet features Harvey on tenor saxophone, Tim Green on alto saxophone, Marques Carroll, trumpet, Reggie Watkins, trombone, Dan Bruce, guitar, Ben Tweedt, piano, Tony DePaolis, bass, and Dustin May, drums. Boasting their own individual touring histories, the ensemble brings a dynamic voice to Harvey's compositions.
Elemental, the octet's current project, was inspired by the classic elements of water, air, earth and fire. Fusing modern harmonies, driving vamps, and a myriad of textures, Harvey brings these forces of nature to an aural landscape. The Elemental CD was released in May by Harvey's label, Hidden Cinema Records.
