Michigan Right to Read with Michigan Library Association

Event published by St. Joseph/Maud Preston Palenske Memorial Library

The Michigan Library Association (MLA) is a collaborative network of libraries, library professionals, and supporters working together to protect and promote our state’s libraries. MI Right to Read is a grassroots coalition of concerned library workers and Michigan residents organized and directed by the Michigan Library Association.

The coalition opposes any attempts to ban books from Michigan libraries and works to support libraries, educate the public, and support legislation that protects First Amendment rights and intellectual freedom throughout the state.

MLA Program Director Amber Sheerin will discuss the work of MI Right to Read, the principles of advocacy, intellectual freedom and censorship, how Michiganders really feel about their libraries, and how you can help support the right to read.
